Amateur Radio Goonhilly Receiver Projects

Several Amateur Radio Receiver projects are located at Goonhilly Earth Station, run and funded by the British Amateur Television Club (BATC) and Amateur Satellites - United Kingdom (AMSAT-UK).

  • Goonhilly Earth Station supports the projects, providing hosting for the Ground Station facility at their world-famous site in Cornwall, UK.

SatNOGS UHF Ground Station - M0XGH

We host a SatNOGS ground station using a Raspberry Pi 4 and an nesdr RTL-SDR connected to the same UHF turnstile antenna as the uWave WebSDR.

The current status of the ground station and upcoming observations can be seen at: https://network.satnogs.org/stations/4255/

Other Projects

The BATC/AMSAT-UK facility at Goonhilly also supports wider radio-hobby projects including:

Dual-band GNSS Monitoring Receiver

The galmon.eu project monitors the major GNSS constellations using more than 50 receivers worldwide.

We host a u-blox F9P high-precision L1/L2 GNSS receiver, providing a high quality monitoring station from the south-western tip of the UK. You can see the current data from this receiver at galmon.eu/observer.html?observer=29

Public UK NTP Pool Stratum 1 Time Server

The NTP Pool Project is a large cluster of more than 5000 NTP servers worldwide.

We host a LeoBodnar GPS NTP Server to provide a high quality Stratum 1 NTP Server as part of the approx. 300 NTP Pool servers in the UK, serving more than 200,000 time synchronisation requests every hour.

You can see the current traffic statistics at eshail.batc.org.uk/point

1090MHz ADS-B Receiver

We host an ADS-B receiver feeding a number of open-source feeds/aggregators.

The equipment used is a 12dBi 1090MHz Collinear at 3m AGL, Uputronics ADSB-Pro LNA, and an RTL-SDR.

MOTUS Wildlife Tracking Receiver

We host a 4-antenna+receiver installation for UHF 434MHz (CTT LifeTag) wildlife radio tags. This receiver is part of the Cornwall Motus project studying migrant bird species with 4 receiver locations across Cornwall.

Tag detections by this receiver station can be seen at: motus.org/data/receiverDeploymentDetections?id=11723. Detections are not expected often at this location.
